![]() First, there’s the extremely unsettling opponent who runs the games and is sitting on the other side of the table. Now let’s get into what makes this game different. It gets a lot deeper than this and there’s all sorts of variations and exceptions to these rules but these are the basics and, while maybe slightly different, should seem familiar to those who have played these types of card games before. Whoever has their scale tipped loses the battle. For example, if your card hits an empty space with an attack power of three, then three things are added to the scale on your opponent’s side. ![]() There’s a scale on your left hand side and every hit adds to that scale. This is how you determine who wins and who loses. If there’s no opposing card and it’s just empty space then you attack your opponent directly. If your enemy has a card in front of yours, they will attack each other on their turns, matching up their attack power and health. They can move their cards into the middle lane while yours stay in their original playing spots. In front of that is a middle lane of four spots, and then on the other side is four spots where your opponent plays cards. You have four spots in front of you to play cards in. Every card sacrificed is equal to one drop of blood that you can use towards playing a more powerful card. The whole purpose of them is to use them as a sacrifice towards playing another card that costs blood. For example, squirrels cost nothing to play and have zero attack and one health. There’s attack power, health, how much it costs to play, and some have a skill or ability. ![]() Each card will have four different things printed on it. You start a card battle with four cards in your hand, one squirrel and three cards from your deck. I won’t get into every single rule because typing out a hefty tutorial that explains everything would be way too time consuming and I’m not looking to write a guide about it, but I’ll break down the basics of how a turn goes down and how you win or lose a battle. I think you can argue that the genre is overdone and in order to stand out against the rest you really need to do something special with it. ![]() Run based, rogue-lite card games are something that we’ve all seen before at this point. Inscryption does an incredible job taking something that’s very familiar and making it feel so fresh. ![]()
